| A New Bell Schedule Underway for Spring Semester | |||
| 1/5/2010 10:47:35 PM | |||
|
Ida Diaz Jr. High remains committed to turning up the heat in student goals and achievements. All faculty and staff members continue to aspire for 100% student success in all content areas. With that in mind, some changes to the school bell schedule will soon be taking effect starting January 11, 2010. All students will now have an "Advisory Period" from 1:00 pm to 1:36 pm. This advisory period has been added to the school day in order to ensure that students receive that extra time and aide in the areas of greatest need. During this time, students will be able to dedicate a few extra minutes to content areas where additional support and enrichment may be necessary. Students will benefit from this additional period by allowing them a few extra minutes of class to further explore and comprehend the student learning objectives being covered in class. Please be aware that this advisory period does not take the place of afterschool or Saturday tutoring. Both afterschool and/or Saturday tutoring may still be required for some students. Please refer to the Resources tab on the school website for a large view of the new bell schedule and contact Ida Diaz Jr. High for any questions or concerns over this new change. |

The picture below shows off the skills of the eight-graders from Ida G. Diaz Jr. High as they spelled out the words "drug free" in an effort to promote a drug, tobacco and alcohol free community. Over them was a helicopter from the Texas Department of Public Safety piloted by Kyle Argenbright as the HISD Department of Public Relations photographed the students. The entire event is part of the Red Ribbon Week Campaign to promote safe schools. Organizers of the event included Counselors Karrianne Guzman, Karin Cervantes, Office Anthony Hernandez, DPS Officer Johnny Hernandez, Hidalgo’s Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
"This is a way to give back to the kids for their daily work and to promote them to keep away from drugs, tobacco and alcohol" said Officer A. Hernandez. (Photo by A. Rosales-Korrea 10.27.09) |
