| Pirate Band Student Makes History! |
| 11/12/2009 2:21:59 PM |
For the 4th consecutive year Hidalgo Pirate Band member Jose Barrera has been selected as the 1st chair Texas All State Jazz Band drummer. This is the first time in a Texas band history that a student has earned first chair all state jazz honors for four consecutive years. For this accomplishment Jose Barrera will be awarded a $3000 scholarship at the Texas Music Educators Convention in San Antonio this coming February.
Only the top 20 musicians from across the country are selected for the Texas All State Jazz Band and Jose is the only one ever to receive this honor for four straight years.
Jose has been a member of the Pirate Band since his 7th grade year having performed at Pigskin for six years. In addition, Jose has been awarded Six 1st Division Gold Medals at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest and has received 15 bands of America regional champion medallions.
Jose is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jose and Blanca Barrera who are also his biggest fans. Jose plans to attend the University of North Texas and pursue music as his career choice.
Congratulations to Jose Barrera and his family for this tremendous and unparalleled achievement. We look forward to seeing Hidalgo’s own Jose Barrera develop into a world class musician and leader for all to follow.
