Hidalgo ISD- Home to the 2009 Inspiration Award Winner: Hidalgo Early College High School!!
Welcome to the Hidalgo Independent School District website. Here at Hidalgo ISD we pride ourselves as an Early College School District that is focused on developing a college and career readiness learning environment across PK-12 through collaborative efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, board of trustees, and partnerships with organizations and Institutions of Higher Education.

Hidalgo ISD is located in south Texas along the U.S.-Mexico border. The district serves a student population that is 98 percent Hispanic, 91 percent economically disadvantaged, and 61 percent are Limited English Proficient. However, this district is committed to providing every student with a high-quality education that leads to success in high school and beyond. To reach this goal, students at Hidalgo Early College High School have multiple opportunities to take college-level classes while still in high school. At Hidalgo ECHS, students can earn up to 60 college credits prior to graduation at no cost to the student or family.  Students are encouraged to think about going to college by attending college fairs, display of college information in every campus and in classrooms, and through college planning centers.

Hidalgo has a 98.3 percent high school completion rate, which is the highest completion rate of any school district in Hidalgo County. Recently, the College Board presented Hidalgo Early College High School with the 2009 Inspiration Award because of tremendous improvements in academic environment and helping underserved students achieve equitable access to higher education. This makes Hidalgo ISD’s Early College High School one of the only three high schools in the nation to earn this prestigious award.

The Inspiration Awards celebrate America’s most improved high schools that create a culture that helps students acquire self-confidence and the skills necessary not only to gain admission to college but to succeed in college.

U.S. News & World Report has also ranked Hidalgo ECHS for the past two years as one of the “Best High Schools in America” providing opportunities for economically disadvantaged students to stay in school and achieve higher levels of educational attainment. In addition to academic recognitions, Hidalgo ISD has also achieved great success in U.I.L. Athletics and Fine Arts that includes two state championships and a state finalist.

The HidalgoEarly CollegeSchool District is committed to make every effort to encourage, prepare, and connect all students to a successful post-secondary education. Through a “Total Team Effort”, our Journey towards “College Attainment for All” is becoming a reality.

¡Hidalgo dice Viva México!
9/17/2009 11:59:38 AM
