The Parental Involvement Program at Ida Diaz Junior High has the same strategies as the "No Child Left Behind" concept and our Parental Involvement Facilitator is trained that no parent shall be left behid either. At Ida Diaz we understand that when parents are involved, students achieve more regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnic/racial backgrounds, or the parent's educational level. The more extensive the parental involvement, the higher student achievement we have in all areas, academic, extra-curricular, and attitudes, which lead to having greater enrollment rates in post secondary education.
We use multiple of strategies to recruit parents into our programs at Ida Diaz Jr. High. Based at our campus is a Parent Involvement facilitator who is trained by District Parent Involvement Coordinator to teach recruits better parenting skills through our "Parent Involvement Network" curriculum. The importance of maintaining our culture, family relationships, positive discipline, building parent self-esteem, study skills, goal setting, and how to handle inappropriate behavior are just a few of the many skills taught. In addition, parents can learn Basic English skills with programs such as "Ingles Sin Barreras."
The parents also have an opportunity to enroll in our Parental Career Pathway Academies. Every Wednesday throughout the year we bring in speakers, community agencies, noprofit health agencies, and nutrionists to provide valuable insight and knowledge to become better parents, cititzens, and community leaders. Our Parental Involvement Program believes together we can reach out to every parent and youth and demonstrate what needs to be done to improve the learning process, increase achievement levels, and increase the graduate rate.
