Parental Involvement Program

"Impacting Student Learning"

Hidalgo ISD is committed to parental involvement at the district and campus levels providing parents the skills and resources needed to empower them to help their children succeed academically and in life.

Parent centers were established at all seven campuses as a place where parents can learn strategies to support their children's school work, understand the system, and to coordinate volunteer work.

The centers' activities include: English classes, parenting skills, computer basics, arts and crafts, research-based discipline tips, cooking and nutrition classes.

Hidalgo ISD has partnered with South Texas College to establish the Parental Career Pathways Academy for parents.

Parents are provided with opportunities to obtain English Literacy, and a post-secondary education. The program is funded in part by the 21st Century Grant and South Texas College.

Hidalgo ISD is committed to a strong partnership with parents, in order to impact student learning.

It Takes Parents to Have Student Achievement

The Parental Involvement Program has the same strategies as the “No Child Left Behind” concept and the Hidalgo ISD Parental Involvement Facilitators are trained so that no parent shall be left behind either.

At Hidalgo ISD, it is understood that when parents are involved, students achieve more regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnic/racial backgrounds, or the parent''s education level.

Hidalgo ISD uses multiple strategies to recruit parents into the programs available through facilitators. There is a Parent Involvement Facilitator at each of the seven campuses.

The Parental Involvement Program teaches recruits better parenting skills through the “Parent Involvement Network” curriculum. Skills such as the importance of maintaining culture, family relationships, positive discipline, building parent self-esteem, study skills, goal setting, and how to handle inappropriate behavior, just to mention a few.

The parents can also learn Basic English skills with programs such as “Ingles Sin Barreras.” Parents also have an opportunity to enroll in the Parental Career Pathway Academy. Every Wednesday throughout the year Hidalgo ISD provides them with speakers from community agencies, non-profit health agencies, and nutritional backgrounds, which give them valuable insight and knowledge to become better parents, citizens, and community leaders.
