Hidalgo ISD has developed a reputation for high academic achievement and has earned either Recognized or Exemplary accountability rating since 1999. The district has met federal Adequate Yearly Progress requirements since its nationwide inception in the 2002-2003 school year. Hidalgo ISD is the only district in Texas with a student enrollment greater than 1,000 students serving a primarily Hispanic, economically disadvantaged student body, to be rated Recognized or better. For their Spring 2005 performance on TAKS, SDAA II and TELPAS, Hidalgo ISD was one of only four districts in Region One to be awarded Recognized status by the Texas Education Agency. In addition, among the 187 3A districts in Texas, Hidalgo ISD was one of only eight districts to receive a TEA Recognized rating.
