The Accelerated Reading Program is a comprehensive reading program. The students read stories and take a quizzes to measure comprehension. Student goals are set at the beginning of the school year and are reset as they accomplish the goal. The students construct personal knowledge and develop their schemata through the reading program. The students schemata are reflected on prior knowledge, experiences, conceptual understanding, attitudes, values, skills, and procedures a reader brings to a reading situation.
Reading Renaissance is a reading program that accommodates very student’s reading needs, whether the student is being read to, or is reading independently, or is an advance reader. The student will earn points as they pass the reading quizzes. As the student accumulates ten points the teacher will approve the status as an independent reader. The student will have to pass 3 to 6 reading quizzes consecutively to set new reading goals.
Super Reader: The student is certified as an independent reader. The student will read three books worth at least one point each and pass the quizzes. The student will need to accumulate five points Advanced Reader: The student will be certified as a super reader, and will read three books worth at least two points, and pass the quizzes. Star Reader: The student will read three books at a 5.0 reading level or higher, and are worth at least five or more points each, and pass the quizzes. Classic Reader: The student reads three books at a 7.0 reading level or higher, and are worth at least ten or more points each, and pass the quizzes. Honors Reader: The student will read, and pass the quizzes, and accumulate 100 points from a special list of challenging books. A student’s reading history will be recognized from grade to grade. The accumulated reading points will not transfer. For example: If a student at the end of the year is a star reader in fourth grade, he will be a star reader at the beginning of the year in fifth grade with zero reading points. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
