Parental Activities

Monthly Meetings

Parent volunteers are encouraged to participate in monthly meetings.  The meetings range from health and nutrition to  family focus.  The parents that participate are happy  to know that Hidalgo I.S.D. is also interensted in educating the parents as well as the students. People from our community proudly attend and engage in meaningful discussions with the variety of speakers that attend the meetings.

English and Computer Classes

In our gratitude to our parent volunteers, we offer English and computer classes to them free of charge. The only prerequisite is that they have a son or daughter attending Ida Diaz Jr. High or Hidalgo High School.

The English classes are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.  Beginner classes are held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and advanced classes are held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Computer classes are on Fridays from 7:30 to 1:00 p.m.

Parent Field Trips

Parent volunteers have taken a variety of field trips. Sometimes they supervise students on their field trip.  They go to the movies and have pizza for lunch.

They have been to the fire department and to visit other schools. And other times they go on field trip on their own with out any students.  They have been to different bookstores around the valley. Other times they go to downtown McAllen to look for different sorts of incentives for the student body.
