About Dr. Alejo Salinas Jr.
Dr. Alejo Salinas, Jr. Elementary opened its doors for the first time in August 1999, serving children from Hidalgo and Granjeno.  The school was named after Dr. Alejo Salinas, Jr. who was Superintendent of Schools of Hidalgo ISD for 18 years. Dr. Alejo Salinas Jr. was born at La Reforma, Texas and started his first year of school at San Isisdro. He continued his elementary school studies in Rio Grande City and Edinburg. After graduating fro Edinburg High School, he attended Pan American College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Government in 1967. In 1970, he completed his Master of Education degree  from Sam Houston State University. In 1981, Dr. Salinas completed his basic course work in 1981 and was employed as Superintendent of Schools for Hidalgo ISD in July of the same year. He eraned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Administration from the University of Texas in 1983.
