Margaret Menchaca
Special Ed. Teacher Mrs. Margaret Menchaca was born in Dade County, Florida and is the second oldest in a family of nine. She comes from a family of migrants that is spread out across the United States. Mrs. Menchaca was raised between Idaho and Phoenix, Arizona. Eventually her grandmother convinced her mother to come to the Rio Grande Valley to have her family close by. They have been living here since 1973. She graduated from McAllen High School and was educated in the medical field. She has been married for over twenty-three years and has three wonderful children who are her joy and at times her worry. Her middle son was diagnosed with disabilities. She left her job to remain at home with her him during his younger years. She graduated from the University of Texas Pan American with a Bachelors of Science in Rehabilitation and a concentration in Addictions Studies. After graduation, she enrolled in the Alternative Certification Program to become a teacher in Special Education. She came to Hidalgo I.S.D. due to its sterling reputation. This is her second year at Hidalgo Elementary School and loves the occupation. She works hard to guarantee that her students receive as much education as their peers. She is dedicated to this endeavor.

Engelbert Olmedo
Content Mastery Teacher Mr. Gilbert Olmedo hails from Manila, Philippines. He earned his baccalaureate degree in Music Education from the University of Santo Tomas graduating magna cum laude in 1993. He spent the next nine years working as a music teacher, arranger, piano accompanist and choir director at PAREF Southridge, an exclusive school for boys, and at the International School Manila. He migrated to Texas in 2002 and has since been teaching special education at the Hidalgo Independent School District. He is currently finishing his masters degree in Special Education at the University of Texas Pan-American. Outside the classroom, Mr. Olmedo’s hobbies and interests include collecting books and fountain pens and sketching.

Lucila Flores
Teaching Assistant, Special Education Lucila Flores was born in General Bravo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on April 22,1963. Her mother’s name is Maria M. Solis. She comes from a family of four siblings including herself. She studied from elementary through high school where she was born. She also has a bachelor degree in education from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. In 1984 she married Armando Flores and moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1996. She has two sons. Their names are Victor and Armando Flores. She tended to her family, and then in the year 2000, she decided to work as a substitute teacher in Hidalgo I.S.D. and then was hired as a full-time teacher aide.
