Mrs. Meme Wisdom, 2nd Grade
Mimi Wisdom Meme Wisdom is a former Hidalgo Elementary student where she is currently teaching 2nd Grade. She was born Manuela Garces to Guadalupe Garces and Maria Alonzo in McAllen, TX. She is a graduate of The University of Texas at Pan American. Her major at the University of Texas Pan American was Interdisciplinary Studies with a Bilingual Minor. Meme has lived in Hidalgo TX. most her life. She traveled as a migrant child for a while to the states of Idaho and Oregon. In Idaho she learned to hoe and thin sugar beets and in Oregon she worked picking green beans, pickles, and raspberries. As a migrant farm worker, Meme knew much sacrifice, but most of the experiences helped her learn the meaning of hard work. As a child, Meme had her mother as her working mentor. She saw her mother work countless long and hard hours to ensure that her children had all they needed. She noticed that her mom was the first one up preparing breakfast tacos and hot lunches for all the family and the last one to go to bed after a long hard day at work. Work in the fields was very hard and very rewarding for Meme and her family. It built character and inner strength. It was very inspiring and very spiritual living among the huge pine trees and gigantic mountains of Idaho and Oregon. Meme continued to travel when she married her husband that took her to live in Augusta, Georgia. He was a soldier in the Army. Again, as she was living away from home, Meme learned great lessons about people and life. She made many friends that taught her lessons of love and compassion. At an early age Meme knew that her mission on Earth would be to share her life and experiences with children. After serving in the Army, Meme and her husband experienced life in North Texas. She enjoyed living in the rat race until she knew that the rat race was not where she wanted to raise her family. Soon her husband came to work for The Hidalgo County Irrigation County which brought Meme back to Hidalgo, TX. After many years of serving others, Meme went back to school to get her teaching degree. She had had many jobs including working in the fields, working at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Parker Seals; she screened luggage at the airport in McAllen Texas; she was a ticket agent for Texas Airlines, and she was a bank teller at the Border Bank. She was a teacher aide for five years and a migrant clerk for ten years at Hidalgo I.S.D. She was going to college at night and raising four children the whole time she was working at the Hidalgo I.S.D. She graduated in 1997 and has worked as a teacher for ten years now. Meme was given a great vision of life at a very young age. She knew she was destined to work with children some day. She believes in the power of educating the mind of the youth. It is her blessing to leave great impressions and memories in the lives of the children of her beautiful Hidalgo, Texas.
