Enedina Esquivel
Mrs. Enedina P. Esquivel was born on November 11, 1936, in Los Ebanos, Texas, to Mariano and Felipa Pena. She grew up on a 150- acre ranch in Sullivan City. Losing her father at a young age, Mrs. Esquivel’s mother was the backbone of the family and worked hard to get all of her children through high school and college. Mrs. Esquivel quotes her mother’s words “the only thing in this world that nobody can ever take from you is your education.” Mrs. Esquivel uses those words with her students today. Mrs. Esquivel attended school within the La Joya ISD. Her education began at Los Ebanos Elementary, then proceeded to Junior High School, and later graduated from La Joya High School with the class of 1955. While in high school, Mrs. Esquivel was an extremely competitive athlete. She played volleyball, basketball, and baseball. She was also involved with the Mighty Coyote High School band where she sat as 1st char French horn player, feature twirler, and drum major. Mrs. Esquivel began attending Pan American College in June 1955. In September 1957 she began teaching beginners and first grade with 48 students in her classroom at Abram Elementary with an emergency certificate. In August 1958, she received a Bachelor’s of Science in elementary education and a minor in kinesiology. Throughout the years, Mrs. Esquivel coached junior high and high school girls’ athletics, taught in the reading lab 3rd – 6th grades and tile/migrant students 3rd – 4th grades. She served the La Joya ISD as an educator for 36 years. On December 26, 1970, Mrs. Esquivel married the love of her life, Fernando Esquivel from Penitas, Texas. In November 1972, they were blessed with their first born and only son Fernando, Jr. Four years later, they had a beautiful baby girl whom they named Jessica Belinda. Serving as role model for their children, Mrs. Esquivel always instilled the importance of a good education. In May 1996, Fernando, Jr. received a Bache3lor’s of Science in Kinesiology and with a minor in Biology from the University of Texas Pan American, and is currently teaching science at Nicky Rowe High School. Jessica received a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Pan American in December, 2003, is a registered nurse in the state of Texas and currently works and is an RN/case manager for Hosanna Health Care. As the years have gone by the family has grown. Fernando, Jr. and his wife Dorothy have two children, Elisabeth and Alexandre Emmanuel. Hector and Jessica have three daughters, Jackqueline Nicole, Jazmin Annette, and Jocelyn Clarisse. Mrs. Esquivel take pride in all that she does. She has touched may lives and made a difference in each one of their students that have been in her classroom. Mrs. Esquivel has been an educator with Hidalgo ISD for 14 years. She loves what she does every day and feels right at home with the support and commitment of her fellow teachers, staff members, administrators, students, and parents of Hidalgo ISD.

Mrs. Petra Anzaldua, 2nd Grade Teacher
Mrs. Petra Vasquez-Anzaldua is a teacher at Hidalgo Elementary. She has been teaching for almost fifteen years. Mrs. Anzaldua was born in Donna, Texas. She went to Donna’s schools until she was in seventh grade. Her parents moved to Pharr were she entered eigth grade. She graduated from PSJA High School in 1986 and continued her studies at the University of Texas Pan American where she majored in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Spanish. Mrs. Anzaldua started working at Hidalgo Elementary School as a first grade teacher in 1993. While working in school she continued going to the University of Texas Pan American to receive certification as a Reading Recovery teacher. Mrs. Anzaldua married in May, 1998. She married a teacher from Hidalgo Elementary School. She went to live in Mission, Texas where her husband is originally from. Today Mrs. Anzaldua is happily married and very proud of her three children. She has two sons and one daughter. Her son, Cristian, is eight years old and is in second grade, Citlali is four years old and she is in Pre-Kinder and finally but not least she has a four months old baby named Gabriel. Mrs. Anzaldua is an outgoing and easy to get along person. She is very energetic.
