Rebecca Moore
Rebecca Olvera Moore is the oldest of eleven children. Rebecca was born on February the 19, 1960 in McAllen, Texas. Both parents were born in Mexico and migrated to the United States when Rebecca was old enough to attend school. She attended Hidalgo Elementary in the late 1960’s when Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Baker were principals at the school. Rebecca attended Hidalgo I.S.D. all of her school years. She graduated from Hidalgo High School in 1980. They were the first seniors to graduate from Hidalgo High school. Rebecca attended several colleges but also worked several odd jobs to help support her large family. Her family also migrated to Ohio State for many years to make ends meet. In 1986 Rebecca was hired by Hidalgo I.S.D. as a para-professional at Ida Diaz Jr. High. She gained valuable experience in the class room and was inspired by others to become a teacher. Hidalgo I.S.D. started a college program for teacher aides. This program encouraged para-professionals to attend college and pursue a career in teaching. Rebecca started her career in Education. Teaching was the perfect way to help others and make a difference in her life. Rebecca had to continue working and going to school at night. When Rebecca had enough college hours, she transferred to The University of Texas at Pan American. In 1992 Rebecca met Kenneth B. Moore from Birmingham Alabama and got married in 1993. Rebecca and Ken have two lovely daughters, Danielle and Dominique Moore. Rebecca dropped out of college for nine years to raise her family. Despite many obstacles, Rebecca returned to school to finish her dream. Although many teacher aides started in the college program, Rebecca was one of the lucky ones who completed her hours. Rebecca graduated from the University of Pan Am in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in English. Her proud family attended her graduation and celebrated this great occasion. Rebecca Olvera Moore, is still employed by Hidalgo I.S.D. but as a certified teacher. She is very grateful for all the help and support that Hidalgo I.S.D. has given to her. Rebecca Moore teaches first grade at Hidalgo Elementary and hopes to make a difference in the lives of her young students. She considers Hidalgo I.S.D. like home where she grew and found a wonderful future. Her own children attend Hidalgo I.S.D. and have grown to love this beautiful place. She is the only one in her family with a college education. They are very proud of her and continue to support her in all her endeavors.
