Alicia Cid

Hidalgo Elementary School has had many teachers over so many years, and Maria Alicia Cid is a teacher who is currently one of them. Ms. Cid was born in Atlixco, Puebla, Mexico and was raised in Mexico, Distrito Federal. She left Mexico City when she was 17 years old. She came to the
United States of America and graduated from Edinburg High School. It was in 1969 when she started working as a teacher's assistant that truly inspired her to become a teacher. She then pursued her education at Pan American
University and received her Bachelors degree in education with a minor in Spanish. While she was attending university, Ms. Cid worked as a teacher's assistant for 6 years for the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District, where she later worked as a full time teacher for 6 years. It was
in 1982 when she took up a teaching position interviewed and hired by Dr. Alejos Salinas at Hidalgo Independent School District. First Ms. Cid began as a 1st grade bilingual teacher under the supervision and guidance of Mr.
Leo Pena, the school principal, at that time. Ms. Cid has worked hard teaching Pre-K 3 year old through second
grade over 25 years at Hidalgo Elementary School. Ms. Cid has 37 years of educating experience and dedicating her job to children. Ms. Cid enjoys teaching because she feels proud educating children for tomorrow's world

Maria Bocanegra
Pre-Kinder 4
Mrs. Maria Bocanegra was born in Kingsville but attended Lamar Elementary in Edinburg and Crockett Elementary in McAllen. She graduated from McAllen High School and Pan American University. She has three children, Roel, Jr., 28 years old, Raul, 26 years old, and Rudy 24 years of age. Her goals in life are to be an example for her children and to push them toward higher education in order to succeed in life. She also hopes to help Hidalgo Elementary School reach Exemplary status again in the TAKS Examination. She is determined to prepare her classroom in Kindergarten to gain good social skills and to know their sounds and blend them into good reading skills. She has been a Para-professional for five years and has been teaching for eight years. Her hobbies include camping and the great outdoors.

Yvonne Sanchez
Pre-Kinder 3
Mrs. Yvonne Sanchez graduated from Hidalgo High School in 1992. She attended college in McPherson, Kansas. Mrs. Sanchez has been teaching for seven years at Hidalgo Elementary School. She enjoys working with Pre-Kindergarten students. She is married to Gus Sanchez and has one child named Gustavo Sanchez. Little Gus is five years old and attends Hidalgo Elementary School. Being raised in Hidalgo and having gone to school here, gives Mrs. Sanchez a great deal of pride when teaching Hidalgo Elementary students.

Esperanza Palomo
Pre-Kinder 3
Esperanza Palomo has lived in the Palmview area for the last thirty years. She graduated from a local university with a major in elementary education and a minor in psychology. She has an endorsement in Early Childhood and Bilingual Education from the same university. Miss Palomo has been working for the Hidalgo schools for the last nineteen years. Formerly, she was assigned to teach Pre-K4 and Kindergarten at Kelly Elementary. Mrs. Palomo now teaches at Hidalgo Elementary School. She teaches UIL at Hidalgo Elementary and has taught at Salinas Elementary. She likes the Hidalgo School District because Hidalgo is a small community and has friendly people. The wonderful co-workers she has met in her work environment are a joy to her. She hopes to continue her mission which is to educate the future leaders of America.

Silvia Sierra
Pre-Kinder 4
Mrs. Silvia Sierra lives here in Hidalgo. She went to grade school and High School here. Her generation was the first one to graduate from our present High School. She is married and has two children, Eric and Stephanie.

Mrs. Sierra graduated from The University of Texas Pan American. She has a Bachelors Degree in Office Administration and is certified in Bilingual Education. She has been working for the district for the past five years and has taught Kindergarten and now Pre-Kindergarten-4. Mrs. Sierra loves to work with small children and feels privileged to have the opportunity to give back what her teachers taught her. Her goal is to instill in each one of her students the idea that the sky is the limit, “Never say I can’t do it, at least try it.” Thus, these will be our esteemed citizens of tomorrow.
